My name is Kate Branch, founder of Mosman Bride. My husband is the CEO of Emerald City Hotels, whose crown jewel is The Albert Mosman, where I also have the privilege of serving as Chief Marketing Officer.
One of the questions I'm asked most often is, "What was your own wedding like?" Long before my husband ever imagined transforming The Albert into the boutique hotel it is today, we were married here in Mosman in February 2010. It feels wonderfully fitting that our story began in the very suburb that would later become the heart of our professional lives.
As I share our wedding story, I'll also share the lessons I learnt along the way—practical advice I wish every bride knew before her wedding day. Some came from careful planning, while others came from the unexpected moments that taught me the most.

One piece of advice I always share with brides is to make time for portraits before you leave for your ceremony.
The Albert Mosman wasn’t part of our story when we married in 2010 (although I often say I wish it had been!). In fact, at the time, The Albert was a very different place, it was run down, being used as office spaces, and many of its beautiful Victorian heritage features were hidden behind walls and boarded-up windows.
For our wedding, I made sure I carved out time for beautiful portraits as soon as my hair and makeup were finished.
Make sure your photographer captures a full-length portrait of your entire look. Once the celebration begins, the focus naturally shifts to the emotion, the people, and the moments unfolding around you.
Those quiet photographs before the whirlwind begins become some of the most timeless.
Like every bride, I had imagined the perfect wedding day. Warm golden sunshine filtering through the trees, a brilliant blue sky overhead, and that soft, magical light every photographer dreams of. I had pictured every beautiful moment unfolding exactly as planned.
Instead, we woke to one of the rainiest days of the year.
And when I say it rained, I don't mean the occasional shower. It absolutely poured. Sheets of rain fell from the moment I opened my eyes until long after our reception had ended. There wasn't a single break in the weather all day. Looking out the window, it felt as though every outdoor plan we'd so carefully made was washing away before our eyes.
Thankfully, I had prepared for exactly this possibility.
My second piece of bridal advice: Always have a backup plan. You can't control the weather, but you can control how prepared you are for it. Ironically, having a Plan B gave me the confidence to relax and enjoy the day. Looking back now, I barely remember the rain—I remember marrying the love of my life, surrounded by family and friends. The weather became part of our story, not the story itself.
Plan your photography locations well before your wedding day. Visit them in advance, think about the time it will take to travel between your ceremony and reception, and choose locations that are close by. Mosman is unique because within just a few minutes you have breathtaking harbour views, elegant heritage buildings, lush parklands and iconic beaches.
The less time you spend travelling, the more time you'll spend celebrating with the people you love. Your guests won't be left waiting, you'll arrive back in time to enjoy your cocktail hour, and your photographer will capture an incredible variety of images without the stress of a rushed schedule. With a little planning, your wedding photographs become a joyful part of the day rather than a race against the clock.
One of the best decisions we made was taking a moment to pause before our location photographs.
After your ceremony, you've just experienced one of the biggest moments of your life. You've hugged family, kissed grandparents, thanked guests, and been congratulated what feels like a million times. It's emotional, exciting, and, if I'm honest, a little overwhelming.
Before heading off for our location photos, we arranged for champagne to be waiting at the Rotunda. It gave us and our bridal party a chance to simply breathe, laugh, toast the moment, and let the excitement settle.
My advice? Build this into your timeline. Even 15 or 20 minutes makes a world of difference. Those first photographs after the ceremony are no longer filled with nervous smiles or the adrenaline of the aisle—they're filled with genuine laughter, relaxed conversations, and the pure joy of having just become husband and wife.
Some of my favourite photographs from our wedding weren't the perfectly posed ones. They were the candid moments, champagne in hand, surrounded by our closest friends, soaking in the fact that we were finally married.

One of my favourite details from our wedding was displaying photographs of our parents’ and grandparents’ weddings.
Seeing generations of love stories celebrated side by side created such a beautiful sense of connection and history. It was a reminder that our wedding was not just about the two of us, but about the families, traditions, and relationships that brought us to that moment.
Guests loved looking at the photographs, sharing stories, and seeing the couples who came before us. It became more than just a styling detail—it was a conversation piece filled with emotion and meaning.
My advice? Don't underestimate the power of personal touches. The details that reflect who you are as a couple are the ones that make a wedding truly memorable. Trends come and go, but the moments that tell your story are what guests will remember long after the last dance.
Now, years later, watching couples begin their own love stories in Mosman feels incredibly special. There is something truly magical about this place—the harbour views, the heritage charm, the beautiful natural landscapes, and the sense of community that makes every celebration feel unique.
Mosman remains one of Sydney’s most enchanting places to say “I do,” and I feel incredibly fortunate to help couples discover just how special it is to be married here. From the moment a couple arrives, through to their photographs, reception, and those unforgettable little moments in between, Mosman has a way of becoming part of their story.
It feels wonderfully fitting that the place where our own journey began is now a place where so many other couples begin theirs.
