My name is Kate Branch, founder of Mosman Bride. My husband is Jean Claude and the CEO of Emerald City Hotels, whose crown jewel is The Albert Mosman, where I also have the privilege of serving as Chief Marketing Officer.
This is our wedding story, and the advice I hope will help make yours everything you've dreamed of.
Carve 20 minutes out from Makeup being finished for portraits .For our wedding, I made sure I carved out time for beautiful portraits as soon as my hair and makeup were finished. The Albert Mosman wasn’t part of our story when we married in 2010 (although I often say I wish it had been!). In fact, at the time, The Albert was a very different place, it was run down, being used as office spaces, and many of its beautiful Victorian heritage features were hidden behind walls and boarded-up windows.
But I cherish these photos.
Always have a backup plan. You can't control the weather, but you can control how prepared you are for it.
Personally, I woke to one of the rainiest days of the year.And when I say it rained, I don't mean the occasional shower. It absolutely poured. Thankfully, I had prepared for exactly this possibility. It involved the Rotunda and a bottle of Champagne! We still have the glasses.
The less time you spend travelling, the more time you'll spend celebrating with the people you love. Your guests won't be left waiting, you'll arrive back in time to enjoy your cocktail hour, and your photographer will capture an incredible variety of images without the stress of a rushed schedule.
With a little planning, your wedding photographs become a joyful part of the day rather than a race against the clock.
Don't rule out classic black and white photos. This is me and my beautiful sister back in 2010, yes, the dress beading gives away the era, but black and white is timeless. I still love these photos.
One of my favourite details from our wedding was displaying photographs of our parents’ and grandparents’ weddings.
Seeing generations of love stories celebrated side by side created such a beautiful sense of connection and history. It was a reminder that our wedding was not just about the two of us, but about the families, traditions, and relationships that brought us to that moment.
Try and make it to your cocktail hour. It's fun. I'm going to get some flak for saying this, but you've invested so much into the reception, please enjoy it.
Back in 2010, the pre-bride reveal wasn't even a thing yet. And honestly, I think it's a wonderful idea. Get your images while your makeup is perfect, then take 40 -60 minutes taking photos around the reception area so you can get straight back to the fun.
